we’re so lucky to get to eat so many staple grains tbh. like in early history you’d have to just eat what grew around you on a day to day basis like if you were born in asia hope you like rice if you were born in northern europe hope you like einkorn wheat. but i’m gonna eat rice AND wheat AND oats today. fabuloso

we are hurtling toward an internet age transexual creation myth of our very own

Alex and Steve were given the Notch Apple by Herobrine and upon eating it they realized that they were transgender

“Alex, Steve? Why do you hide your bodies? Are you discontent in the forms I have made for you, in my own image?” asked Hatsune Miku.

“We choose to carve our own destinies from the stones and pickaxes you’ve so graciously given us with which to create.” They both replied, and Hatsune Miku descended from her chorus on high with an “Oh swag have fun.”

The fact that Tesla autopilots abort self driving 1 second before a crash so the company can state “self driving wasn’t active during the collision” should be grounds to dismantle the entire company.

Like, seriously, if you’re making 4000 pound death machines, and you program this shit to work on a technicality? Your company should be dismantled. Gone. No recourse. Just terrible shit dude

odysseus absolutely does present a threat to penelope if he perceives her as at all unfaithful, and i feel the unfairness of this, and i think people tend to undersell how much tension at least potentially exists between odysseus and penelope. but i’m also like. his reaction, all speculation aside, his actual reaction in the odyssey to her flirting with the suitors is delight, because he immediately ascertains that she is running a con. sorry that they’re so in-sync in spite of the forces that try to drive a wedge between them, including their own misgiving hearts. sorry that they invented homophrosyne ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

crazy that like three months ago it was some kind of horrific accusation that israel would bomb a hospital but today they have bombed multiple hospitals, left nicu babies to die, ran over patients with bulldozers, sniped other patients inside the hospital and nobody cares — deena (@itsdeenasaur) January 6, 2024ALT
there isn’t even a modicum effort of denial anymore because there’s no need to deny it… these are things considered acceptable for israel to do to palestinians — deena (@itsdeenasaur) January 6, 2024ALT

As of January 6, Israel had completely destroyed at least 23 hospitals in Gaza.

It goes without saying that is a violation of the Geneva Convention.

The rules of war are clear. Hospitals are specially protected facilities under international humanitarian law. The ICRC urgently calls for the immediate protection of all civilians, including humanitarian workers and medical personnel. This protection is not only a legal obligation but a moral imperative to preserve human life in these terrible times.

oppression is not relegated to just what people visually see about you.

and I’m not saying this in the context of like the discussion of hypervisibility vs invisibility dynamics, but just on the level of– when people face interpersonal hostility or even violence because someone mistakes them for a member of an oppressed group, or is seeking to humiliate or degrade them by comparing them to a stigmatized group

(e.g. a straight kid gets picked on and called anti-gay slurs, a tme butch person gets kicked out of a bathroom due to the assumption that they’re a trans woman, a non-Black person of color gets called a specifically anti-Black slur, a civilian woman is harassed by police assuming her to be a sex worker, etc.)

claiming that their ability to be visually mistaken for a member of the oppressed group being targeted means that they are inherently a part of that group being targeted is to deny all of the ways in which oppression functions structurally before anyone sees you at all.

(before the other kids see the straight kid and call him anti-gay slurs to degrade him, there are already laws forbidding gay kids from talking to safe adults or accessing information about themselves; before the butch enters the bathroom and is singled out, there are already laws preventing trans women from existing in public spaces, accessing medical care, accessing shelters, etc.; before the non-Black person sees the racist, the entire structure of cities–public transport, housing, policing–is already set up to surveil and punish Black people; before the civilian woman encounters a misogynist cop, there are already laws criminalizing housing for sex workers, denying them bank accounts, preventing them from accessing public spaces on and offline, etc.)

It is a moment of being targeted by the violence of that specific oppression, but it is not equivalent to the full experience of existing as someone who is always and already a target for the oppression before anyone sees them.

da'shaun l. harrison’s framing of how thin people experience the “residue” of anti-fat violence, rather than experiencing fatphobia itself, feels really relevant here:

yes, *and* this should be reframed. it’s about not being the biggest in the room. and while this may seem like semantics, it’s important to be clear that, in this context, anti-fatness—or ‘fatphobia’—is about the distance between them and fatness. not just being the thinnest. https://t.co/m0mDF1pdSS — 🏞️ - 🌊| they/them (@DaShaunLH) April 6, 2023ALT
thin people don’t experience fatphobia because they’re read as fat. they experience fatphobia to discipline them into never being fat. because the goal is to never be in proximity to fatness by way of disciplining and punishing them into thinness (as a size and politic). — 🏞️ - 🌊| they/them (@DaShaunLH) April 6, 2023ALT
thin people experience the residue of the anti-fat violence their bodies help to sustain. thinness as/is power. therefore, violence experienced for being proximate to fatness is a residual effect of anti-fatness because of thin people and thinness. — 🏞️ - 🌊| they/them (@DaShaunLH) April 6, 2023ALT
